Genesis 12:1-9
The Bible says that we are to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7). That means even though we’re unable to know what’s ahead we can trust the God who does. Abraham is a good example, and we should follow in his steps. When he was called to leave his country and family to go to a land God that would show him, Abraham obeyed. Hebrews 11:8 adds, “he went out, not knowing whither he went.”
That’s a good description of the Christian life. Every day we face unknown circumstances, but can we trust the Lord to guide us. It’s a decision we make – either trust God’s leading or follow our instincts (they’re usually off since we’re all sinners). Since we don’t know the future, our walk with God can seem confusing. We’re generally tempted to rely on our own feelings, perceptions, and reasoning. But sometimes God puts us into situations to teach us to trust Him even when we don’t know where we’re going and cannot see the outcome.
God wants us to set aside our own ways of figuring things out and instead to walk by faith (Prov. 3:5-6). That may sound risky, but here’s why it’s the best way: The One leading us has complete knowledge of the future and the power to work all things together to achieve His purpose in our life (Rom 8:28).
God is worthy of our complete trust and confidence – will you trust him today?
